Marina Hemingway

The rest of Friday we wandered around the marina, took naps, the dockmaster came by to make sure we were situated and exchanged money for us, visited Hemingway International Yacht Club (we are temporary members for a year).

We liked the marina, there are several stores there. (Goverment run, more on that later). A couple of restaurants, wifi from the hotel and work has been done so that there are new pedestals with water and electric and 24 hour security.  The security guys will check on you when they see you, and they will also help you if you need anything (for a tip).  They can even set you up with a taxi or tour, but all you need to do is walk down to the Yacht Club and they are all waiting to nab you.

Cuban nationals CAN NOT walk the concrete walkways by the boats unless they are employees of the marina.  STRICT no-no.  Between each canal is a street, and you can walk to the street and they will approach you.

Our lady settled in.

The rally crowd waiting to come in that I mentioned before.

Entrance to the marina from town.  There is a security station at the entrance.

The yacht club. (Shaped like a boat--how cool)

Fast and quick translation-
"Other than the sea, the most admired creation is man"

Every thing in Cuba usually will have a Castro tie in.  Same here.  Below is by the open air bar/event area that they call Papa's.  It's where Castro and Hemingway met for the first and only time in 1960.

The monument is the exact location of the photo.  Every year they have an invitational billfish tournament in honor of this occasion.

Inside of the yacht club, decorated with the usual ensigns and Fidel's fishing pole from the meeting with Hemingway.

Other interesting tidbits around the marina.  Unusual statues, sunken/abandoned boats and 'tags' of people who've been there before.

Hermit Dalmation.

Seal hand or Hand seal?
Daytime high tide.

Night time low tide. Ghost boat.
I thought I had pics of the 'abandonado' boats, but I guess I don't. Those are the boats that the marina marks abandoned and the year, but they don't move from the slip.

Below are the slip 'tags'.

Like I said, there is always somebody waiting to give you a ride.

 Requisite sunset picture!
